South Palm Beach, FloridaThere were many aspirations that we had when we started this band. Many things we wanted to achieve and places we wanted to go. It must be said that playing at tea time in an empty stadium in Florida was probably not one of them. Going on tour with one of my favourite bands (The Cure) alongside a good few of our friends was an opportunity i jumped at ,but the harsh reality of sporadically scattered confused Floridians staring at our pasty frames wasn't quite what i imagined. It was outrageously hot and i'm guessing that most folks stayed inside until they really had to. It was all a bit odd and stayed much the same whilst The Rapture were on. Interpol fared better as it as getting dark and they have the luxury of having some hits. The Cure were majestic, though the encore was a bit cheery for my liking. |

Jacksonville Florida - Freebird live. This is a strange place. It seems like where people who inhabit the middle of nowhere go on holiday. Its so hot our eyes are sweating and our body clocks are unimpressed that according to them we are playing at 5 in the morning. The day was spent watching my favourite TV channel Fox "News". There is a feature on a man who has eaten 20 000 Big Macs. His moniker is "Big Mac Man". We also watch the comander in chief deliver an astoundingly patronising speech to the urban league. What he lacks in brains he more than makes up for in unintentional humour. Butlins should book him now for next summer.I love America. I get the impression from the fact that the other upcoming attractions at the venue (a Lynryd Skynrd theme bar) are Dokken and WASP that bands like ourselves don't come through town that often, with that in mind its not much of a surprise to find that we play to the smallest (though definitely not the least enthusiastic) crowd we've played to in years. We play a few songs we haven't done in a while and end up having fun. Or as much fun as you can have whilst playing our music. Roll on tomorrow. |
